Terms and conditions for new Nominations

We will consider including a building on the register if:

  • it is listed or unlisted;
  • it is within or outside a Conservation Area;
  • it is wholly or partially unoccupied and/or disused. We will include buildings even if they are weathertight and secure if they are not in use:  the long-term survival of a building is strongly dependent on it being in use.  Sometimes part of the building will be in use but the rest may still need help;
  • it is not being comprehensively maintained. If a building is unoccupied and without a use we would typically include it unless it has a comprehensive and confirmed maintenance programme or conservation management plan which will be implemented;
  • it is without a confirmed, unconditional rescue plan that stands a good chance of going ahead;
  • it is in England, Wales or Scotland.

How to take and send photographs for the register

  • Photographs should be high resolution (minimum size: 2 Mb).
  • If you are visiting a building to take a photograph or gather information about its condition, please remember that the building is likely to be private property and will require the owner's permission to enter.  In addition, it may be in poor condition and therefore potentially dangerous.
  • Please do not put your personal safety in danger or break the law by going on to private property.
  • Photographs should be taken from public rights of way or public land unless you have obtained specific consent from the property owner.
  • Photographs should not include people or details which may enable the identification of individuals.
  • Unless you tell us otherwise, we may use your photographs in other parts of the SAVE website or in press releases or newsletters and will credit the photograph using your name.
