OPEN DAY
Saturday 28th March 2009
Shurland Hall, Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey, Kent
Spitalfields Historic Buildings Trust
Since 2006 The Spitalfields Trust has worked to restore Shurland Hall. Roof, floors and staircase have been reinstated, chimneys beautifully rebuilt and internal walls reintroduced. The hall has had modern services discreetly inserted creating a wonderful five bedroom house whilst appearing as it did at the end of the 19th-century.
By the late 18th-century the gatehouse was used as a farmhouse and associated structures fell into ruin. It was disused by the 1940s. The site is today designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Following the Trust's repairs, the hall will be removed from the English Heritage, Heritage at Risk register with much celebrating.
The open day is bound to be a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in restoration projects and historic buildings as well as those who might even be in a position to purchase the building when it comes on the market at some point within the next year.
The Hall will be open to visitors from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 28th March 2009.
