Every year we add new buildings from around the country to our online at risk register in a bid to publicise the plight of historic treasures which, with new uses, could find new life. The register is a powerful tool in bringing buildings which could be repurposed to wider attention.

Dr Joanne O'Hara will highlight work which has been done to save a range of buildings in Somerset including one of the biggest buildings currently on our register, Tonedale Mill in Wellington. In doing so, she will demonstrate that there is no problem so big it cannot be tackled and she will provide inspiration and hope to all those working to save buildings at risk.

Joanne O'Hara is an architectural historian by training who, since completing her PhD, has worked in a number of academic, curatorial, and commercial roles. Jo is currently a Programme Manager specialising in Heritage at Risk at Somerset West and Taunton Council. In this role, she works on complex Heritage at Risk projects that bring back to life heritage assets which are in a neglected and perilous condition, and seeks community-focused solutions for their future.
