Having languished on our register for almost 20 years, Bath Lodge has been restored. See the story of its restoration, and other buildings from our register, on Channel 4's Restoration Man on Sunday 21 March.

Bath Lodge in Ormskirk, West Lancashire is an extraordinary castellated folly. It stands in the middle of a cornfield in a fine rural setting. It was last used during the war as a place for farm labourers to eat their lunch and has now finally been restored and converted into a family home.

The building is locally known as Barney's Castle and is thought to have been originally used as a hunting lodge by the Earl of Derby. It dates from the 18th century and is built of red brick with curious square section blind detailing in cement.

The building has been on our register since 1992 and has been languishing in a very bad condition, overwhelmed with ivy. The brickwork was deteriorating and the roof merely a temporary covering.

Finally an acceptable scheme for the folly was approved for its conversion into a single dwelling. Work has now been completed and the project can be seen on this Sunday's episode of Restoration Man on Channel 4.

Also on the show from our register is Thorington Lodge, Suffolk.
