A special online series hosted by Martin Randall Travel to mark SAVE at 50!

This year, SAVE Britain’s Heritage proudly marks its 50th anniversary. Since our founding in the 1970s, we have stood at the forefront of the conservation movement as a fearless and tireless advocate for endangered historic buildings across the UK.

To celebrate this milestone, we are delighted to partner with Martin Randall Travel for a special online talk series. Proceeds from the events will be shared with SAVE, supporting our ongoing campaigns to protect vulnerable heritage.

SAVE was established by a group of journalists, planners, and architectural historians who recognised the urgent need to take action where others would not. Our mission has always been clear: to fight for buildings facing demolition, decay, or neglect—often where loss is driven by short-sighted development or speculative planning gain.

Over the years, our work has led to some of the most significant conservation victories in the country. These include the rescue of Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire—one of England’s most majestic Palladian houses—and the saving of 400 Victorian terraced homes in Liverpool, preserved for families after a public inquiry we successfully led.

The three ‘in conversation’ illustrated talks in this series are presented by SAVE’s director, Henrietta Billings. Each session offers a different lens on SAVE’s legacy and influence: our founder and president Marcus Binney reflects on five defining 'Big SAVES'; writer and commentator Simon Jenkins revisits the landmark 1974 Destruction of the Country House exhibition at the V&A and SAVE’s earliest campaigns; and Emma Bridgewater, founder of the iconic ceramics company, shares her experiences of breathing new life into the potteries of 1980s Stoke-on-Trent.

Talks take place on three Tuesdays at 4.30pm:

  • 27th May 2025 - Dare to Care with Simon Jenkins
  • 3rd June 2025 - Up My Street with Marcus Binney
  • 10th June 2025 - Take A Chance On Me with Emma Bridgewater

Each session, including Q&A, runs for just under an hour, and recordings will be available to view for eight weeks following the final talk, until 5th August 2025.
