Join SAVE and Rodrigo Orrantia Gomez for a private guided tour the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Don’t miss this last chance to take a guided tour of one of London’s finest 1930s landmarks before major renovation works begin. Designed by George Grey Wornum, RIBA’s grade II* listed headquarters at 66 Portland Place is a striking blend of Art Deco and late Neo-Classical styles, built in steel and reinforced concrete and clad in Portland stone. The tour offers rare access to its original interiors, including the grand central staircase, council chamber, Florence Hall and Jarvis Auditorium*. The building will close for at least two years from 1st June 2025 to undergo essential works that will improve accessibility, sustainability and the visitor experience.
Following our RIBA building tour, our group will get special access to the current exhibition Difficult Sites: Architecture Against the Odds exhibition, exploring how architects have tackled complex sites, from awkward urban plots to dramatic landscapes and challenging remodels. Featuring over 20 innovative UK projects from the 1900s to today, it includes work by Neave Brown, Norman Foster, Tonkin Liu and Carmody Groarke.
Rodrigo Orrantia Gomez is the Exhibitions Manager at RIBA. He has worked on milestone exhibitions for the RIBA Architecture Gallery including The Brutalist Playground and Beyond Bauhaus - Modernism in Britain 1933–66, and also oversees exhibitions across the RIBA HQ in London and RIBA North in Liverpool.
