SAVE Britain’s Heritage objects to the plans to abolish the principle conservation officer post within the planning department of the London Borough of Ealing, the only post with specific heritage expertise.
SAVE urges Ealing not to abolish this post to ensure that the borough continues to have a rich and deep built, natural and material heritage highly valued by residents, visitors and potential investors.
Ealing has a rich historic building stock. There are 29 conservation areas and more than 600 designated heritage assets, including such outstanding places as John Soane’s Pitzhanger Manor House (grade I) and the Art Deco Hoover Factory (grade II*). The decision to abolish the conservation officer post sends the message that Ealing Council does not value its historic buildings.
