Historic hotel for sale on Cumbria coast

Built in 1880 by Edwin Hodge Banks as his residence, this once stately building has since served as a hotel and also been in Government ownership. Most recently, it was a hotel until 2006.

It is located in the village of Skinburness not far from the Victorian seaside town of Silloth and close to the Solway Coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The building has views towards the Solway Firth.

In 2008 the property was acquired and in 2010 the new owners were granted planning permission to demolish it and build a 64 bedroom care home. This has never progressed and fortunately the Skinburness Hotel is still standing. The building was advertised for sale again in 2012 but it is not certain whether it was purchased or by whom. The building may be available to buy and could be converted to a range of uses including a hotel, residential or sheltered accommodation. Equally it could make a good base for an outward bound centre.
