Arson Attack on Lancaster Brewery

The building at the centre of an epic battle to save a historic industrial quarter close to Lancaster city centre has been attacked by arsonists. A fire was started at Mitchell’s Brewery on Saturday 27 February but, thanks to vigilant local residents, the fire services were alerted quickly, and the blaze was contained. The main part of the building does not appear to have been damaged. The brewery is currently being assessed for spot-listing. It is also the subject of Judicial Review by SAVE due to be heard in court later in April. SAVE has written to the Culture Minister, Margaret Hodge, urging her to act quickly to protect the building by listing it without further delay.
